What is the difference between listen and listen up
Listen up! You can also just say listen! Or, of course, listen to me! In some contexts it would be extremely rude and counter-productive, depending upon the relationship of the speaker to the listener. I need help with some phrasal verbs. I have particular problems with those that still mean the same if they don't have the proposition, like "listen up", "hug it out", "laugh it off", "ask away", etc. I figured out correct me if I'm wrong that if you add "up", you're adding more emphasis to the verb: listen up, would be "listen until I'm finished", right?
How do you use each proposition in those cases? Thank you. Last edited by a moderator: Dec 18, EStjarn Senior Member Spanish. Click to expand Last edited: Dec 18, Silver Senior Member Chongqing.
