While deer hunting was closed in southern Michigan for the entire decade of the s, the population returned. By , deer could be found in every county in the state.
The DNR says the deer herd in Michigan peaked in the s. A record , deer were harvested in The population could double in two or three years.
DNR officials say that deer population is thriving throughout Michigan. So much, in fact, that some changes have been made to deer regulations.
