Can you transfer worlds in minecraft

I am able to import them into what is now just called "Minecraft" which as of the BTU is what is being used to mean the cross-platform version. Can I now play this same world on my Windows 10 PC? If I go to the Minecraft web site it offers to sell me the "Java Edition" with the addendum "includes edition for Windows 10".

But from what I have read, anything that has the word "edition" in it isn't the cross platform version. It's very unclear to me what I would actually be buying here. If it is possible to open the same world on different platforms, exactly how would I go about doing this?

On the XBox I have to sign in with an outlook. And where would my world be saved? And then how can I get it back to the cloud when I am done so I can play it on the console again? Will there be two copies floating around, making it possible for me to make a backup on my PC? How will this interact with world editors?

At some point will I be able to start a game on XBox, transfer it to the PC, open it in a world editor, make some changes, and then transfer it back to the XBox?

I've looked, and the only method anyone talks about is using Realms. Finally, a real way to transfer free. There is a way to transfer worlds from the Xbox to windows 10 and back using Minecraft Realms , but it will cost some money and availability may depend on your country.

You sign up for the Realms service in the game on either platform and then the realm appears on the list of worlds you can log into. A pencil button next to the realm name opens the Edit dialog, and that screen has two buttons you will use. You can transfer your world from and to any of these devices and play on that world via these devices. You will also be able to start a game on XBox, transfer it to the PC, open it in a world editor, make some changes, and then transfer it back to the XBox, as long as you are using a world editor compatible with Minecraft Bedrock Edition.

About the Cloud saves, I am quite sure you can just get onto Cloud using your PC and download the saves from then on, and I suppose you can also insert saves back in again.
